A warm Happy New Year for 2016. We have now been in school for one week and everyone returned refreshed and ready to start learning again. There was a buzz of excitement on campus with the upcoming WWW trips for the Grade 9, 10 and 11 students and final preparations were in full swing.
I had the pleasure of observing the Grade 10 math students on the basketball courts, launching their Rockets. I did ask for a explanation from Mr Flisak about the activity.... 'Rockets are great examples of projectiles and projectiles, due to gravity, follow a parabolic path when launched into the air. Student's launch rockets using a compressed air method and gathered data related to the flight time and maximum height of their rockets. Students will analyse their results to create quadratic equations to model their rocket flights!' and in Grade 9 they were flying paper airplanes in Science to measure time, distance and speed. These are just some of the wonderful learning opportunities our students do outside of the classroom.
Week Without Walls (WWW) TRIP - This coming week in Vietnam, Cambodia and the Philippines our students will once again be 'learning beyond the classroom. At ISS, we recognise that this "expands learners’ understanding of the curriculum and its possible applications as well as contributing to their individual development." We look forward to reading the WWW blog and not only seeing but hearing about the experiences. Please do comment on our WWW blog - http://issweekwithoutwalls2016.weebly.com/
MOCK EXAMS - Our Grade 12 students will be busy for the next 8 days sitting their IB DP Mock exams. This provides the students will a feel of what to expect in May for the finals, and to reflect on how they have prepared and conducted themselves. They are then able to fine tune their personal preparations in time for May exams. The examination timetable has been sent to each Grade 12 student. Any questions, please do contact our IB Coordinator Mr. Jungo - [email protected]
