Last weekend, NewAge Hackathon 2.0 held a 24-hour competition for phone app beginners. It was open to all youths ages 13-25, and experienced coders were also welcome. Participants were invited to design apps which will tackle a particular social problem in Singapore. The theme of the NewAge Hackathon 2.0 was “Mental Wellbeing for all Ages”. ISS had 4 teams competing and all successfully completed their products and had a great time. (Mr OLoughlin)
On Friday, our boys did us proud against a large field of runners. Out of an unconfirmed field of 54, combined U16 and U19 runners, Rikuto came in 28th in a time of 22.03 minutes and Andrew came in 38th in 23.56 minutes. Both of our students are in the U16 category. There were six other schools competing, UWC, Dover and East, CIS, SAIS, SAS and Dover Court. The race was held at Pasir Ris Park in near perfect conditions. (Mr. Bache, Cross Country coach)
As you can see from the pictures and write-ups above we have certainly been busy this week at the High School. We ended the week with the Parent/Teacher Association get together at Paterson campus and look forward to the PTA AGM on 14th September.

Zika Information
I am sure many of you are worried by the news that Zika has arrived in Singapore. The current outbreak is in an area localised within the Aljunied Crescent/ Sims Drive cluster which is approximately 22 km from Preston Road.
Whilst Zika is a very mild disease for the person catching it, it can have an impact on unborn children.
The school follows a regular policy of fogging for mosquitos every Tuesday and has regular inspections from the NEA to ensure that the Preston site is as clear of mosquitos as possible.
We would ask that anyone who may be having any of the following symptoms;
We shall, of course continue to monitor the situation closely.
