I cannot believe we have been in school for one week already! We have seen our students and teachers extremely active and busy, preparing for the many activities and events we have arranged for this final term.
We finished last term with our annual Track and Field event where we saw records being broken and absolutely wonderful support for all of the participants. The final winners of the day were Orchard House. Congratulations to the students and to Mr Bell and Ms Allan who organised the event, and all the teachers who supervised and helped make it a memorable day.
Model United Nations
We had 14 delegates from ISS at the OFSMUN event at the end of last term. Dr Ford and Mr Cordray expressed how well the delegates spoke within their groups and were truly outstanding role models. Congratulations to all of the students that took part in such a meaningful event.
TedEx Youth Event
Last Friday Yuval from Grade 11 did ISS proud as a presenter at the TEDEx Youth Event held at Hwa Chong International School. The theme of the event was 'Reflect, Refresh, Renew' and he presented in front over 200 people.
The title of his talk was 'No Longer The Angry Atheist' and in it he talked about how he, through adopting the technique of 'street epistemology', managed to improve his discussion skills with others when talking about matters of faith. This is relevant to him personally, as he is from Israel and, despite him being expected to follow the Jewish faith, considers himself as an atheist.
Mr Jungo accompanied Yuval and said "Yuval's presentation was one of the ones standing out. Seven different DP schools from Singapore and Malaysia took part, providing ten different presenters, in addition to three adult guest speakers." His talk will be available on YouTube in the near future. Congratulations to Yuval and Mr Jungo for mentoring him.
Thinker
During March we focused on the IB Learner Profile thinker. "We use critical and creative thinking skills to analyse and take responsible action on complex problems. We exercise initiative in making reasoned, ethical decisions."
