Our DP students Art work was once again of outstanding quality as displayed at the IN Exhibition. Congratulations to Halima, Hung-Yuan (Chris), Mon, Moe, Rocio, Jing (Cindy) and Mariko on the wonderful pieces of work. ISS along with 14 other schools participate in the IN Exhibition hosted by the Australian High Commission and it provides our students with an opportunity to discuss and share their work with a wide audience. Ms Larue is dedicated to providing our students with learning experiences that embrace the IB Learner profile as communicators, risk-takers and reflective. We also had two of our DP Musicians chosen to play the piano during the evening; Naoki and Mingzuo (Sam). If you were unable to attend the opening night, you can still go along and see the exhibition during the coming month.
A reminder of the upcoming events shared with you via ManageBac by our Head of School, Dr. Margaret Alvarez.
The first event on November 28th is a talk by Dr Stephen Holmes on the skill sets our students will need when they enter higher education or the workforce. This future focused talk will focus on our changing educational environment and will give pointers on how parents can support their child’s development. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
The second event is our annual Festival of Lights on December 6th. This event showcases our High School musical talent. Prior to the event, at 6pm, the School Board and PTA will jointly host a reception. This is an excellent opportunity to get to know members of the School Board and PTA and an additional opportunity to learn about what is happening at ISS.
The third event on December 10th is a Japanese University Fair. This fair is jointly sponsored by ISS, the Ministry of Education in Japan (MEXT) and the Global Education Foundation, Japan. The universities represented offer programmes taught in English and also programmes taught in Japanese. Programmes are of a high quality and are very affordable.
Our Grade 9 and 11 students have been busy preparing for exam week and as I have visited classes and spoken with teachers and students, I am pleased to hear from them how our Mindfulness programme is supporting them in their preparation. Exam week can be a stressful time for students and teachers and it is important we look after ourselves. Our Student Services team have shared strategies and actions that our students can use:
1. Set Goals
2. Sleep
3. Review
4. Choose wisely
5. Breathe
6. Exercise
7. Explain
8. Eat Brain food
9. Plan ahead
10. Take breaks
We wish all our students the best next week. The exam schedules were sent to parents and students on ManageBac some weeks back. Please contact the high school office ([email protected]) if you need another copy of your child's schedule.
Our Grade 10 and Grade 12 students will be in normal lessons as they will sit their Mock exams next quarter in Semester 2.
Upcoming Events
Monday 27th November MYP Certificate Awards ceremony
Thursday 30th November Grade 10 DP Information Evening
Wednesday, 6th December Festival of Light (Preston Campus)
Sunday, 10th December - Japanese University Fair (Paterson Campus)
