This coming Wednesday, May 10th, is Vesak Day which celebrates the birth, enlightenment and death of the Buddha. This is a public holiday and the school will be closed.
We continue to see our students excelling in many after school activities and being provided opportunities to be true Risk-Takers. Our badminton teams; boys and girls were medal winners in their division with 3rd and 2nd place respectively.
On Wednesday evening, we were also all fortunate to enjoy a wonderful evening of music, drama and art. The Gazebo was turned in to an outdoor stage and our covered area into a mini theatrette and the whole evening was both creative and fun. The music students kicked the evening off and took to the stage singing their own composed songs, I recall hearing about Caption Hook and Peter Pan in one. This was followed by three drama productions about Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood and Rapunzel. The audience was captivated and we all left with a smile on our face from laughter.
Our grade 10 students are now on study leave and begin their MYP exams this coming Tuesday. The Grade 12 students are a 1/3rd of the way through their exams and we continue to wish them all the very best.
I was invited to a poetry afternoon by the Grade 10 Mother Tongue students and was impressed with the diverse number of languages we cultivate and support. It was most gratifying to listen to poetry written by the students in Thai, Burmese, Italian, Spanish, Indonesian and Filipino. I also indulged in wonderful local foods too!
In April we celebrated the IB Learner Profile 'Knowledgable'. "We develop and use conceptual understanding, exploring knowledge across a range of disciplines. We engage with issues and ideas that have local and global significance." (IBO, 2006)
