On Thursday, September 29th, Grade 9 students went on a field trip to the NEWater treatment plant in Bedok, and to Marina Barrage. This field trip was a multidisciplinary trip with Individuals and Societies and Mathematics that related directly to the current units in both of these classes. At NEWater, students learned about the importance of water reclamation to Singapore’s water supply, while at Marina Barrage, they investigated the history of Singapore’s ‘Water Story’ impacts of the Barrage, and the Marina Reservoir, on Singapore’s water management efforts.
While at the Barrage, students also carried out a geometry investigation, working in small groups and using clinometers to measure angles and the heights of different structures. As part of their Geometry unit, they used knowledge of right angle isosceles triangles to help them accomplish their tasks. (Mr Matthews, Humanities Teacher)
